Avery Hanna
Theology III at Blessed John XXIII Seminary, Weston, MA
Projected Ordination Year: 2013
Home parish: St. Anne, Columbus, GA

Hometown: Freeport, Bahamas
Scripture you find inspiring: Jeremiah 1: 5 “ Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations”
Hobbies: Cooking, reading, listening to music, watching movies, and traveling.

What led you to consider the priesthood? I finally gave into the call to the priesthood: I spent a good portion of my life staying busy as a means of running away from the call. From the age of twelve, I can recall the haunting feeling which always pointed towards the priesthood, but I ignored it until it finally reached a level where ignoring it was difficult and I became docile to the Spirit and was finally able to say “ Yes” to the call.

Thoughts on being a seminarian: Being a seminarian has been a rather humbling experience for me as I realize that the people of God will one day be entrusted to my care for their Spiritual needs. The first thought that crossed my mind was the fact that I am unworthy but this feeling can also be an excuse not to act. I often remind myself to “ Be not afraid for I go before you always, come follow me and I will give you rest.”
